A little more than two years after Michael Jackson’s death on June 25, 2009, and the legal battles and bitterness continue. Most recently, the Michael Jackson Estate has threatened to take legal action over the all-star “Michael Jackson Forever” concert set to happen in Wales in October, and the manslaughter trial of Jackson’s doctor is set to begin in September. But there is still one place where only the good memories prevail—Spike Lee’s annual Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson bash. Last year the party drew an estimated 50,000 revelers to Nethermead Field in Prospect Park (30,000 more than in 2009) to honor the King of Pop. This year should be just as big, with DJ Spinna playing Jackson’s hits for a huge dance party and sing-along. Bring your blankets, chairs, and best Jackson-inspired look—Lee’s production company 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks will be taping the whole thing.
