After only four months as the chef at Monument Lane, Brian Murphy has parted ways with the West Village restaurant.
Murphy sent a note to Eater announcing his resignation, which he described as the result of “irreconcilable operational and creative differences” with the management.
For his part, Josh Frum, the principal owner Monument Lane, has released the following statement: “As you know Chef Murphy has departed the restaurant to pursue other opportunities and we wish him the best of luck. Our staff remains dedicated to putting out great food and are planning to make some menu changes. We are already in talks to bring on a replacement at this time and are excited for the restaurant’s future.”
August has been a busy month for chef resignations: Murphy’s departure follows that of David Santos from Hotel Griffou, Nathan Foot from Northern Spy Food Co., and Nicolas Cantrel from Brasserie Beaumarchais. Maybe it’s something in the water? Or maybe everyone wants to do the only reasonable thing one can do in August, which is to get the hell out of town?
