Look, there’s Manhattan D.A. Cy Vance attempting to hold a press conference about his office’s abandonment of the DSK case today. Around halfway through, the itty bitty NYC version of today’s earthquake hits.
And it’s pandemonium! People are running around, grabbing each other, and Cy Vance looks totally confused. Not sure whether they continued the conference or not, after all the hullabaloo.
While the earthquake maybe didn’t deserve that kind of reaction in NYC, in Virginia it might have caused real damage. It was the largest quake to hit Virginia since 1897, and by the way, the epicenter was “not far from Dominion Virginia Power’s North Anna nuclear plant” (emphasis mine) where the power went out but thankfully the nuclear reactors were unaffected.
According to the report linked to in the above graf, Richmond police began receiving calls about possible property damage including a stairwell and wall collapse within minutes of the quake.
