Lady Gaga’s latest transformation, in which she is now Jo Calderone, a roughed-up-looking dude with a pompadour, is such a striking transformation that, just like her infectious pop tunes, we can’t seem to shake the image of Jo from our heads. Melodymania, a new exhibit at RH Gallery, explores how striking images can get stuck in our brains the same way a pop song can. Matthew Barney, Soledad Arias, and Mark Seliger are a few of the artists who aim to represent the power of music in new ways. Portraits include Lady Gaga, Kurt Cobain, and two Persian female singers who have been banned from performing in public or producing albums in Iran.
