In his first column on the abuse of Abner Louima, a series for which he would win a Pulitzer, tabloid reporter Mike McAlary wrote, “Be very afraid if this story is true, and I am afraid it is.” Playwright Dan Klores takes on another true story, that of McAlary himself—his outsized ardor for reporting and life and his premature death.
