The celebrated pianist’s working trio is a modern jazz marvel, waxing poetic and kicking ass on a regular basis. Their dedication to drama is as deep as their love for splintering beats. This stint is a rare foray into hornville, with the equally marvelous Mark Shim tenorizing the stage and a reed ‘n’ brass combo of Steve Lehman and Graham Haynes being called to assist at the tail end of the run. Methinks the new thicket of textures is going to make Iyer’s music even more provocative.
