Carroll Gardens is about to get a new Northern Italian-style tavern. And it might just sport the biggest mouthful of a name this fall’s crop of new openings has yet. James McGown, who owns the South Brooklyn Pizza chainlet, is opening Buschenschank Brooklyn later this month, inspired by the Northern Italian region of South Tyrol, a/k/a the excellent cold-climate wine region of Alto Adige.
Located at the corner of Court and Sackett streets, Buschenschank will serve Italian and German beer and wine; cured meat boards featuring speck, Westphalian ham, and Laschsschinken; and fresh knödel, sausages, and house-pickled vegetables. The name, Buschenschank, is what the natives call the region’s wine taverns; the logo is from South Tyrol’s coat of arms. And if all that wasn’t enough to get you excited, there will also be weekly live music shows, with a focus on German pop and rock bands. Sounds molto wunderbar.
