Earlier this morning, a radio rip of “We Found Love,” the lead single off Rihanna’s forthcoming (sixth!) album, made its way on to the internet. But 20 seconds into the track, when that first Ibiza build-up begins to anticipate the inevitable four-on-the-floor stomp, it becomes clear that neither the source nor the audio quality do the song much justice. The track, produced by the Scottish dance-music alchemist Calvin Harris, picks up where the beat-heavy Stargate tracks on last year’s Loud—”S&M,” “What’s My Name,” “Only Girl (In The World)”—left off; it’s meant to be blared at the club, a place where the song’s repetitive structure won’t be much of a problem, and where I’ll be able to dance along without getting the side-eye from my co-workers. Listen.
