Each week in The Daily Shot, we have ourselves a drink that we think you should try, too.
The drink: Sophie Bee
The bar: Putnam’s (419 Myrtle Avenue, Clinton Hill, 347-799-2382)
The price: $9
The ingredients: Jim Beam Rye, Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur, lemon juice, honey, Creole bitters
The buzz: Didn’t you hear? Clinton Hill has a gastropub. Putnam’s Pub & Cooker is its full name, and it has all the usual suspects of the moment — burgers, fried oyster sandwiches, mac ‘n’ cheese — on the menu. But you can’t get away with being a gastro-anything these days without a signature cocktail list. The brief list of offerings is nothing fancy, but does the trick. To wit: the Sophie Bee, a ginger-spiced sipper, pleasantly tart, and sweetened with honey. Yes, it’s made with Domaine de Canton, but no one’s puttin’ on airs here. They’re using Jim Beam Rye — no prissy craft local stuff. It’s stiff and bold and puts hair on your chest. Hair you can coif or manscape, should you wish, as you sip it mixed with French imported liqueur and pair it with the roasted bone marrow appetizer, perhaps … but hair all the same.
