Taxi horns, police sirens, jackhammers—the city is full of all kinds of unpleasant sounds we could do without. But the new group exhibition Rumble Above the Clouds is adding to the city’s noise in a positive way. Presented by the art collective Openings NY, which explores the connections between creativity and spirituality, the show aims to shake things up with its challenging painting, sculpture, photography, video, and site-specific installations. Artists showing off their work amid the altars and pews of the beautiful Church of St. Paul the Apostle include Emily Adams, Lauren Gohara, Meg Graham, Joey Kilrain, Keena Gonzalez, and the Voice’s own Araceli Cruz. Be sure to come out for the opening-night party on September 29, where you can munch on tasty hors d’oeuvres and sip wine—how often do you get to do that in church? Opening night party is at 7 on September 29.
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays, 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturdays, 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Starts: Sept. 29. Continues through Oct. 27, 2011
