It’s that time of week again. The time when those of you who were not utter dirtbags in the comments get rewarded! We’ve rounded up the comments that made us laugh, cry, ponder, nod and/or shake our heads, and the authors of those comments can get their very own lovely Village Voice t-shirt. If we chose one of your comments, email our Web Editor Francesca Stabile and claim your shirt.
Best Historical Reference in the Original French
Today Harry Siegel reported on Bloomberg’s latest bon mot with regard to Occupy Wall Street: “The protests that are trying to destroy the jobs of working people in this city aren’t productive.”
Dark Heartfelt quoted Marie Antoinette (in the original French, better yet):
“Qu’ils mangent de la brioche.”
(That’s the quote that’s commonly semi-mistranslated as “let them eat cake,” in case you didn’t know.)
Most Depressing Yet Relatable
The East Village and the Lower East Side were plunged into the dark ages this week when Time Warner’s services went on the fritz for more than a day. RJJNYC said what everyone was thinking:
“It did briefly cause me to realize that I have forgotten how to live. But it’s back on now…”
Most Insightful Description of a Smell
Hollister has a new mural in SoHo. It’s ugly. You know what else, as CSS pointed out?
“It’s not just murals, they pump some kind of california odor out of the store that’s behind the original mural. I think it’s pachouli + ball sweat.”
