Despite the tattooed, fixed-gear-bike crowd that inhabits Williamsburg, there is a curious dearth of vegan options aside from Foodswings and Bliss Café. Champs, a small bakery tucked away on residential Ainslie Street, is changing all of that by transforming itself into a full-service vegan diner. In the old-school diner tradition, the restaurant will be serving breakfast all day, plus it’ll be baking its usual treats like vegan cookies and cupcakes. So, what’s on the menu?
For breakfast, there are modified classics like the tofu Benedict, a Monte Cristo stuffed with vegan ham, and a Denny’s-style Vegan Slam that includes a tofu scramble, tempeh bacon, home fries, and (groan) soysage. The lunch menu is made of meat-free versions of sandwiches such as the Cuban, tuna melt, and Reuben, plus veggie burgers and salads. Click here to see the full menu.
