When you sell fresh bread, cheese, and cured meats, it doesn’t seem like such a leap to slap these together into a sandwich. So, why did it take so long for Brooklyn Victory Garden to put one and one and one together?
“It took us a while to unpack the slicer,” says co-owner Tom Bartos by way of explanation.
The Clinton Hill food shop specializing in local goods started selling pressed sandwiches a few weeks ago, offering two varieties daily. The Beavy, pictured, is always available, featuring Shelburne, Vermont, cheddar and Beth’s Farm Kitchen Plum Chutney on Balthazar’s Multigrain Pullman bread, for $5.50. A second option, with meat, changes regularly, for $7. (You can also get a mini Beavy for $3.)
