Martyn Jacques, the falsetto-voiced founder of the London-based alt-cabaret band Tiger Lillies, has admitted in the past that he liked to make the audience so uncomfortable that some people walk out of the show. And this week’s string of performances, with New York’s own Justin Vivian Bond, could very well give Jacques what he wants. “Hopefully we will be able to generate quite a lot of hatred on stage between us,” Jacques says. The Tiger Lillies are best known for their “junk opera” Shockheaded Peter, a macabre adaptation of a German children’s book, which played off Broadway in the late ’90s. In Sinderella Songs, the Lillies will perform some of their favorite tunes from Peter and their other shows, while sharing songs from their new collaborative album with Bond, Sinderella. The loose plot concerns a crack whore (Bond) and her abusive stepfamily.
