When Baz Luhrmann directed Romeo + Juliet in 1996, his radical take on the Shakespearean classic, it was the low-fi track “Talk Show Host” by Radiohead that made a scene with Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo come alive. Now Shakespeare and Radiohead are reuniting once again in Radio and Juliet. Performed by Ballet Maribor and choreographed by Edward Clug, the story of the star-crossed lovers is told through the eyes of Juliet and accompanied by the music of Radiohead to explore what might have happened if Juliet hadn’t killed herself. We caught a glimpse of the show, which is making its New York premiere, and the combination of the soft and seductive moves with the dance-pop track “Idioteque” from Kid A was electric. We can’t wait to see the whole thing.
