Once you get past the conceit of a baritone sax co-fronting a youngish band specializing in works by the great soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy, everything falls into place. Consisting of Josh Sinton (baritone sax), Kirk Knuffke (cornet), Richard Giddens (bass), and Tomas Fujiwara (drums), Ideal Bread more than does Lacy’s elliptical writing justice, as Rudd, 76, is a boundary-leaping force of nature on the trombone. He’ll perform with Bread at the second of their two shows tonight, the first in a fortnight of gigs curated by Steve Feigenbaum and Cuneiform Records.
