Bye Bye Braverman

Lovingly adapted from Wallace Markfield’s novel, Lumet’s comedy details the adventures of four Jewish intellectuals venturing from Manhattan to a Brooklyn funeral. The shtick isn’t subtle, particularly when delivered by stand-up comics like Alan King (as a rabbi) and Godfrey Cambridge (a Yiddish-speaking cabbie), but it’s often funny and does acknowledge a milieu.
