Creepy hobby or beautiful works of art? Perhaps you’ll find that both are true after attending the Secret Science Club’s sixth annual Carnivorous Nights Taxidermy Contest. Last year’s grand prize winner was Beth Beverly, who came all the way from Philly on the Greyhound bus with a terrier wearing a tiara and a hen decked out in pearls. Think it doesn’t get much better than that? Other unusual submissions from past years have included a working chandelier made of goat skulls, a squirrel dressed as a pope, and a stuffed Wolpertinger (a winged rabbit with sharp teeth and horns). The evening also includes dancing, an illustrated lecture on taxidermy, and specialty drinks that promise lots of bite.
