When we saw Oneohtrix Point Never (government name: Daniel Lopatin) playing before a packed 285 Kent on day two of this year’s CMJ festival, his music was mesmerizing, swirling through the warehouse venue as it blurred the boundaries of analog and digital. The problem? The circumstances made close listening difficult, the crowd more interested in checking tweets than figuring out what Lopatin was doing to his synths. This won’t be the case tonight when he soundtracks Nate Boyce’s computer-generated recontextualization of canonical sculptures from MOMA’s collection, miscegenating analog and digital even further.
