Find the holidays depressing? Maybe you’ve just been missing the right holiday comedy show. The 38th Annual J Hobart B All-Star Christmas Spectacular, a send-up of the big, splashy TV Christmas specials from the ’70s, is an over-the-top night of laughs featuring appearances by ventriloquist Carla Rhodes, the extreme sketch-comedy troupe FUCT, and jazz/pop ensemble the Pendulum Swings (featuring the charming Jason Trachtenburg), as well as short films by Kevin Scott and the Upset Triangle. The fun is hosted by J Hobart B himself, who is described as “an affable but past-his-prime show biz veteran in the mold of Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, and Perry Como.” How could that be bad?
