The giddy nature of the drummer’s spin on holiday tunes mars neither their musical essences nor their provocative possibilities. Wilson’s an expert at bending whimsy and workmanship into one of the most palatable wholes modern jazz has to offer. In terms of songbook, that means Charlie Brown, John & Yoko, and trad Hawaiians are all afforded equal say. Don’t be surprised to leave the gig repeating saxophonist Jeff Lederer’s name to yourself.
