For those who never got to hobnob with the VIP crowd at Elaine’s, this Upper East Side spot is only a block away and offers that quintessential marker of New York restaurant culture, live jazz. Trumpeter Jon Menges and his drummer-less trio dish out cool standards that complement the Continental fare, but things might heat up with versatile guitarist Pete McCann in the mix. McCann is a first-call sideman who has played with Lee Konitz, Brian Blade, and Kenny Wheeler and hails from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the same hometown as Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon. There must be something in the water.
