Papa John’s Apologizes for ‘Lady Chinky Eyes’ Receipt

Yesterday, we reported on the Papa John’s customer who was identified as “lady chinky eyes” on her receipt from a store on Broadway and 142nd Street. The above image comes from Papa John’s Facebook account, and the terminated employee they refer to is reportedly a 16-year-old girl. Hopefully, this entire incident hasn’t tarnished pizza’s good name.

Papa John’s also took to Twitter and issued an apology to Minhee Cho, the customer in question:

For a while, their entire timeline was nothing but apologies to Twitter users who took issue with the company:

Cho told the Daily News regarding her infamous pizza order, “I was very surprised because the lady that was serving me was super nice and we joked and it seemed super normal.”

Ronald Johnson, the operating manager who runs the Papa John’s in question, told Gothamist, “I bet I’ll talk to her and she won’t know why this is offensive. She needs to know, and she will know. If I fire her, two years from now, she won’t even remember why she got fired. If I sit her down and talk to her, I can help her. You still need a certain decorum and level of professionalism [at minimum wage jobs], and that may help her more in the long run.”

As to why the insulting name appeared on the receipt in the first place, a manager at the store told the Post, “It’s a busy place, and it was a way to identify her and her order. You know, we do stuff like that sometimes. We’ll write ‘the lady with the blue eyes’ or ‘the guy in the green shirt.'”

If only Ms. Cho were wearing a green shirt.
