The Growler Station (which, we’ve since learned, is opening tomorrow) isn’t the only new beer shop opening downtown. Now comes word that Top Hops has officially opened at 94 Orchard Street (212-254-4677). Part bottle shop, part tasting room, and part classroom, this sudsy spot offers over 700 brands of beer for your on- and off-premises tippling.
Top Hops will also host guest brewers, visiting beer writers, and beer pairing seminars to praise the gospel of beer. A 30-foot custom-built wood and aluminum bar lets patrons try a flight or glass of the 20 beers on tap, or any bottle available in the store, along with nibbles like olives, pretzels, and Mast Brothers chocolate. And five of those 20 taps are dedicated to local breweries including Greenport, Kelso, Captain Lawrence, Troegs, and River Horse. And like at the Growler Station, customers can purchase growlers in 64-ounce and 32-ounce sizes for at-home boozing. Bottoms up!
