In 2008, 250 war veterans and active-duty soldiers met in Maryland at Winter Soldier, a gathering of eyewitnesses who testified to the horrors of war—and not just any war, but the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over three days, they spoke of atrocities committed by U.S. troops, exposed sexual harassment and racism in the military, and detailed beatings and shootings of civilians. And three filmmakers caught it all on tape. Directors David Zeiger, Mike Majoris, and Bestor Cram will be at the IFC Center tonight for a benefit screening of their resulting documentary, This Is Where We Take Our Stand. Proceeds go to Iraq Veterans Against the War and their ongoing work to spread the truth about the wars to the public.
