In November we started a new feature here on Fridays: the Voice has obtained hundreds of copies of L. Ron Hubbard’s previously unpublished “Orders of the Day,” which he gave to crew members as he sailed the Mediterranean. Our documents cover the period from late 1968 through 1971, and this time we’re looking at what was happening the week of January 22 through 28 during those years.
After the jump, overboarding, OT VII and VIII, and sales, sales, sales!…
[Confused? Go here for our primer, “What is Scientology?” For recent controversies in the church, check out our stories on Debbie Cook, secrets of the Super Power Building, and spying on Tom Cruise. We know these 40-year-old ship’s documents aren’t for everyone, but they’ve been giving us some interesting insights into the mind of Hubbard as he ran Scientology from a yacht in the Mediterranean. Check back here often for more breaking news about the church.]

OVERBOARDS:
BOB SEWELL is assigned overboard blindfolded for not returning to work until 1100 hrs, after he had gone Overboard at 07.55 hrs. He did not have an explanation and was reported to me as eating cookies and drinking coffee while he was supposed to be working and still in condition of Non Existence.

January 27: That darn SMERSH, holding up OT 7 and 8 for everybody…
BREAKTHROUGH
Hey, I just made a couple wild breakthroughs on VII and VIII on the 31 Jan 69 and 1 Feb 69.
I had VII but suddenly got its “end phenomena” and now have the end phenomena of VIII in full view and working up toward it.
It has taken nearly a year to do these, a year filled with a lot of other things. I keep up my research schedule in spite of it all.
Someday somebody is going to ask me why I didn’t keep more extensive records. I’ll tell them it was a miracle to get it done at all.
I realize all Scn should be re-codified and reissued to make it easier to study. And I could have done it if the howling baboons in the “humanities” hadn’t required so much taming.
VII and VIII will be all written up and released when we have SMERSH out of the way and the planet cooled off. So give a heavier hand on these vital actions.
I’ve still got a lot of research and codification to do. If the SO and orgs would take the enemy wholly off my plate and handle him, I could get it done.

January 22: Even the Commodore gets on the cans…
VIP
Congratulations to Div VI and the Officers and crew on their very successful reception for the VIPs. A return invitation for a tea has been given 3 days hence for our Officers when the Mayor returns from the Capital.
We are becoming very expert along these lines. The whole crew ought to become as good as Barry, Sylvia and Lzi as “It’s a PRO world.”
…
AUDITING
I am getting some good VIII auditing from Bel to clean up a lot of neglected points after years of personal and often punishing research into the riddle, the mind. It has been very hard on this body mainly. Possibly for the first time, I am being audited (by MSH and Bel) for myself. Of course, I know I shouldn’t have any case at all and should never mention it — but after 20 years amongst the living lightening on this planet even an OT X would be glad of a touch assist.
It’s interesting that there are points of cognition on my own track.
SMERSH
We have heard directly from the head of Smersh “Ban the Bomb Carstairs” whose contempt for anyone else’s intelligence leads him to state he knows nothing about any attacks on Scientology. Ding, ding, ding, here comes the wagon!
Plans for Ship Operation. I haven’t got any.
Have you?
Nice warm sun.

January 28: Churches? Orgs are for selling, sailor!
ORG TROUBLES
The only trouble with Scn orgs is that they are not promoting, selling and delivering.
Seems so elementary.
Possibly they think we are asking for something strange or fantastic when we say “Raise your GDSes”. Possibly org boarding and hatting does not seem complicated enough to produce a result. Possibly raising GDSes does not seem to be the result of recruiting, org boarding and hatting.
Whatever it is the task is so simple that one gapes when it is not done.
Although New York is doing better, its troubles are just failures to recruit, org bd and hat and then promote, sell and deliver.
In NY they actually think they have an HGC but are only selling “Interiorization Rundowns and Life Repairs.”
That’s like walking up to a candy bar and asking to buy some candy and being told “Oh, we just sell the wrappers.”
Student training is going better. But I never was able to run an academy where students were co-auditing without selling and delivering an awful lot of Reviews and grades.
It’s best to stress training in an org but not to the extent of not running a busy HGC.
NY has “low pay”. They probably lose about $20,000 a week in unpromoted unsold undelivered potential. That’s the loss in an org, not the wasted paper clips.
The answer is recruiting org boarding hatting and thus promoting selling and delivering.
I trust our FEBCs going back there learn this lesson well. That’s why they’re here.
LRH, COMMODORE
I guess it’s good to know that LRH managed to get in some auditing of his own between all the overboarding and demanding higher sales. I mean, a guy’s gotta relax and make that needle float when he can get a chance…
Scientology watchers: come back to these pages at noon — we’ll have another nice morsel of enturbulation for you before the weekend starts! We got impatient and pushed the button already — go see our bonus Friday coverage!
