In January 2010, Aventura, the biggest bachata group the world will ever see, officially called it quits, taking a four-night victory lap through Madison Square Garden on the way out the door. Tonight—and again on the 23rd and the 24th—the group’s frontman, the aptly named, smooth-as-silk Romeo Santos returns on his own, touring in support of November’s Formula, Vol. 1, a minor masterpiece that balances its poppier ambitions (Lil Wayne and Usher both make appearances) with nods to the genre’s past (“Debate de 4” stages a round table with bachata legends Luis Vargas and Raulin Rodriguez) and George Lopez (who appears in priest’s robes on the album’s intro).
