Malaysian Red Curry Tofu from the Cottage (33 Irving Place, 212-505-8600)
The lack of curry sauce is almost laughable in this $9 dish, though the potatoes add a unique — and much-needed — density.
After all, the plate, with its powdery gravy and spongy tofu, doesn’t fully satisfy even a modest hunger.
Other dishes Year of the Takeout sampled with a friend didn’t fare too much better.
And now we know: The free wine — which we weren’t offered — really must be the best thing on the menu.
