As the national news media continues to ramp up a crusade against Iran, NYPD officials are now insisting that New York could be the next target of an Iranian attack.
NYPD’s director of intelligence analysis, Mitchell Silber, spoke to the NY Daily News about the topic:
“Iran is the subject of the vast majority of our discussions right now. This, right now, is a front-burner issue. I hesitate to say it’s No. 1, because we don’t want to ignore the other threats, but right now, it’s essentially No. 1.”
War with Iran has been an on-and-off possibility for the past 10 years, as the country continues to experiment with nuclear technology. National news outlets recently started floating the idea of a strike against Iran after Israeli officials revealed on Monday that the Persian country was responsible for three separate bombings in Bangkok, New Delhi, and Georgia.
Iran also came under scrutiny last year when American intelligence learned that the country had been planning a strike against a Saudi Arabian diplomat in Washington, D.C.
Representative Peter King (R-L.I.), the Head of the Homeland Security Committee, said if Iran decides to attack the U.S., New York would be first on the list:
“New York is the No. 1 target. New York has all the targets that terrorists want.”
