The brainy electro-pop duo known as Yacht rarely does anything without some kind of conceptual underpinning, and their current North American tour is no exception. At shows in support of last year’s Shangri-La, proclaims a typically manifesto-like press release, Yacht “will strive to physically touch, spiritually question, and ecstatically catalyze our friends all over this great unbridled continent.” Whether or not they achieve catalysis, expect an evening spent on the good foot: Like 2009’s See Mystery Lights before it, Shangri-La layers Yacht’s high-minded thoughts on technology and civilization over rubbery post-punk grooves that are among the DFA posse’s funkiest.
