Mercado on Kent, a Basque restaurant that recently opened in Williamsburg, has been serving classic, solid tapas in fairly conservative presentations. By far, the most visually whimsical item on the menu is the patatas bravas tapa. The potatoes in the dish have been cut into perfect cubes topped with little round nubs; you’ll find a spicy paprika sauce hidden between these two geometric components. Fun to look at as well as tasty, they’re crispy, given ample heat from the red sauce, and served alongside a light mayonnaise to cool the palate. All that’s missing for some good snacking at this spot, which is currently BYOB, is your best bottle of Spanish red.
