This ABC News article examines the rough road African-American women have in Hollywood, even when they’ve won the all-important Oscar.
The piece discusses Jennifer Hudson, Mo’Nique, and Gabe Sidibe (who was nominated) and the challenges they face, despite all the acclaim and hoopla showered on their cinematic achievements.
But the conclusion made by the quoted pundits — including myself — is that Spencer has range and talent and has already been working in several media to very palatable effect.
She should be able beat the odds, at least in the kind of character roles she specializes in.
And as I’m quoted as saying, things are already improving for African-American Oscar winners, albeit slowly.
