Car-Service Horror Story

When going out of town, I usually book a car service to the airport just to make sure I get there, since a cab isn’t always a possibility.

But even with the definite car booking, you’d have more luck hailing a yak these days.

The other day, I booked a Carmel car for 7:35 a.m., so I could make an early flight to Miami.

At 7:20 a.m., the driver called and said some unintelligible things.

I assumed he was saying that he was here, since they usually come 15 minutes early and wait for you.

I replied: “Fine. I’ll be down before 7:35.”

I went down a few minutes later, and he wasn’t there!

I called him back, and he let out some crazed monologue in another language, and I had no idea what he was saying.

Then he hung up on me!

I stood there in the street in abject horror!

As I envisioned my whole glorious weekend falling to ruins because of this maniac, I happened to spot another car-service guy sitting there. He worked for 1-212-777-777, and he had been stood up by a passenger.

So he took me and saved my life!

Thank you, 1-212-777-7777!

Some time later, Carmel called me and apologized, saying they could send another car in five to 10 minutes.

I told them where to go.
