Celebrate International Women’s Day with Cocktails at Lani Kai

by

On International Women’s Day, Italian women receive gifts of delicate yellow flowers called mimosas. Women in New York City go out for drinks. Tomorrow you can celebrate the holiday in this way at Lani Kai from 6 to 8 p.m. at a party sponsored by Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails.

From its website, LUPEC seems like the most charming thing ever. The ladies’ mission is “to create a secular ‘coven-like’ atmosphere in which Classy Broads of today can invoke and honor the spirits of their Forebroads.” They dedicated their website to the Gin Fizz, the Widow’s Kiss, and the Singapore Sling — “the drinks our mothers and grandmothers drank, the drinks we strive to save from extinction as a small measure of remembering those great women and their great cocktail parties.”

Cocktails at the event, called Whisky and Women Unite, will be $8 each, with $2 going to a charity that helps disadvantaged women enter the workforce. Free snacks from Lani Kai will accompany the whisky drinks.
