Chico Hamilton

This West Coast jazz maven is 90, which puts him in the running for the world’s oldest living drummer who still plays out. Hamilton grew up alongside saxophonists Dexter Gordon and Illinois Jacquet and bought his first drum set with money he earned shining shoes, going on to release 65 albums as a leader. If that’s not enough, he’s featured in Sweet Smell of Success, composed the score for Roman Polanski’s Repulsion, and contributed to the soundtrack to Boogie Nights.
