Tom Rainey Trio

The first half of the Stone’s March calendar is dedicated to the Swiss Intakt label, and if there’s a through-line binding these artists, it’s a respect for aggressive abstraction. Drummer Rainey, meanwhile, has always had an idiosyncratic approach: His clatter has grace, his kinetics boast momentum. The new Camino Cielo Echo finds him in cahoots with Mary Halvorson and Ingrid Laubrock, and their collective splash offers a variety of dramatic moves. Swiss pianist Irene Schweizer shares the evening’s bill.
