For 2011’s inaugural Ecstatic Music Festival, Dan Deacon hooked up with So Percussion to premiere a newly commissioned piece described by the Voice‘s Puja Patel as a “do-it-yourself clusterfuck of sound.” This year, the bearded-and-bespectacled Baltimorean is back at the indie-classical crossover game with fresh material he has composed for a pair of acclaimed young outfits: New York’s NOW Ensemble and L.A.’s Calder Quartet. (The latter have performed with Andrew W.K., among others, which means the clusterfucking might well continue.) Tonight, the two will perform separately, then join forces to create a veritable chamber-music supergroup. Watch out, Chickenfoot.
