Luis Martinez Shot In Ass While Fleeing Cops; Charged With Attempted Murder

Alleged would-be cop killer Luis Martinez will have a nice scar to show his new buddies in lock up — it’s on his ass.

Martinez, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance says, was shot “in his buttock” while attempting to flee two NYPD officers he’d just tried to kill late last month near Columbia Street and the Bernard M. Baruch Houses.

According to a criminal complaint filed around the time of the February 27, shooting, two patrol officers approached Martinez at about 1:40 a.m. on the street near the aforementioned intersection. Martinez responded by firing a pistol at the officers.

Luckily, neither of the officers were injured — Martinez’s aim apparently could use a little work; the only bullet that hit his targets hit a magazine on Officer Thomas Richards’ belt, preventing it from entering his abdomen.

After the initial shots were fired, Martinez fled on foot, continuing to fire rounds at the officers as they gave chase.

During the chase, a “bullet discharged” from one of the officers’ pistols, striking Martinez square in the ass.

Martinez has been indicted on two counts of attempted first-degree
murder, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second
degree. Assistant district attorneys Joel Seidemann and Tiana Walton.
