The provocative saxophonist’s narrative work has a bit of Jean Toomer in it, with poetic tales told in flashes of vivid scenery. But when she’s focusing on small group improv—what she seems to be doing tonight—the audio theater is delivered in another way, as a bold exchange of architectural ideas that enjoys its sense of thrust. Can’t wait to see what drummer Ches Smith brings to the party.
