Don’t expect to see any octopus, gray sole, skate, Atlantic halibut, or Atlantic cod gracing the icy shelves of the Whole Foods fish counter after April 22. The company has decided to stop selling seafood caught through unsustainable methods, according to the Associated Press.
Whole Foods’ new policy, which will be put into effect on Earth Day, bans any wild-caught seafood that is rated red on a color code that indicates overfishing from its stores. That seafood will be replaced with sustainable fish like Pacific halibut and line-caught cod — a move that just might get the Greenpeace people off the supermarket chain’s back, at least for a day or two.
