An analysis of Health Department data by the New York Daily News revealed that Subway restaurants were shuttered more times for health-code violations than any other major franchise in the city. In the past five years, the chain’s stores have been shut down 55 times.
Kennedy Fried Chicken was the runner-up for most DOH closures, coming in at 31 times over the past five years. Other chains in the top five: Dunkin’ Donuts (23), Crown Fried Chicken (22), and Golden Krust (20). The Daily News reports that some Subway patrons were shocked at the chain’s horrible restaurant-inspection record. Really?
