Broadway’s finest have been honored by the Tony nominating committee, the results announced just moments ago as theater folk all over town felt some real emotion for a change.
Among the nominated are, well, approximately two-thirds of the people I predicted yesterday.
But more interestingly, who got snubbed?
Elena Roger and Ricky Martin, the two most publicized stars of Evita, who were told to “stand back,” as predicted here!
Legendary Angela Lansbury for The Best Man!
Alan Rickman for Seminar, Stacy Keach for Other Desert Cities, and Hugh Dancy for Venus in Fur!
Tyne Daly for Master Class!
Raul Esparza for Leap of Faith and Matthew Broderick for Nice Work . . .!
Bernadette Peters and Elaine Paige for Follies!
Patrick Page, who has worked his ass off in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark and who was considered the high spot!
For Best Play, One Man, Two Guvnors, Seminar, and The Lyons!
And lots of others.
Oh, well. Everyone can’t get the nomination–and many of those who did get them are extremely fierce.
Congrats to all for a varied season.
