Andrew Bird, so the press release goes, is a classically trained violinist (do they train violinists in anything but?) who turned his back on the conservatory in order to make clever indie rock. That might strike some as pretentious, but writing songs that actually are clever (check “Fake Palindromes,” whose lyrics are exactly what the title claims) and actually do rock, Bird pulls it off—now skip ahead to the guitar-driven “Fiery Crash.” Few left Bird’s summer 2011 Prospect Park gig feeling worse than when they entered, and the same will likely be true tonight and tomorrow at the Beacon.
