This usually augmented instrumental septet—relocated to Brooklyn from Denton, Texas—reclaims the ground where sophisticated jazz meets dance music. Led by composer-bassist Michael League, Snarky Puppy dazzles without a lot of unnecessary razzle. League keeps things taut yet homey with propulsive percussion, playfully Polyester analog synth lines, the occasional Brazilian tinge, and nary an extended solo to be heard. It’s solid stuff that speaks to the moment with understated epiphanies. With Alison Wedding.
