Lovano’s blustery sax lines continue to woo audiences in part because even in the most wayward moments, lyricism still defines the action. During a typical solo he chops melodies and reroutes rhythms, but it’s logic, not guesswork, that informs the experimentation. This week’s two-drummer band is always a hoot.
