Swedish sound anarchists Meshuggah have been pedaling their unique brand of asymmetrical post-thrash metal for more than two decades, releasing dizzying polyrhythmic exercises like their breakthrough, 1995’s Destroy Erase Improve, and even more inscrutable audial exhibitions like their 45-minute, 2005 suite Catch Thirtythree. This year, the band pulled back and made a record, Koloss, that is more groove-laden and accessible and one of the best metal releases of the year. Somehow they will make sense of these excursions in a concert setting tonight. With Baroness and Decapitated.
