Too saccharine and classically trained to be grunge, too music-biz by birth to be iconoclast upstarts, too blasted nice—such was that dog.’s curse and perhaps also the reason why the quartet’s members found greater artistic success as soloists while tour- and label-mates like Blur, Beck, and the Counting Crows went on to become alt-rock legends. Now they’ve reunited, presumably because all their peers are cashing in on nostalgia; maybe they just miss one another. Fred Armisen, formerly of Trenchmouth, opens the first show; Kurt Braunohler and Baron Vaughn the second.
