It’s tempting to deem this pianist/drummer one-nighter a harmony meets rhythm confab, but Mehldau has grown percussive on the keys and Guiliana has four or five ways of rendering a melody. Formally, it’s a unique pairing, and if you go for the chops display, you can stay for the poetry that limns each of their approaches. Can’t wait to hear what they do with the quiet stuff.
