Since 1994, New Orleans jazz-funk collaboration kings Galactic have steadily nailed a rep as in-the-pocket heirs to both the Meters and Neville Brothers. Joined by Living Colour belter Corey Glover and Rebirth Brass Band trombonist Corey Henry, the quintet kicks off a four-night Brooklyn Bowl run on the heels of their new heritage-defibrillating party machine of an album, Carnivale Electricos. The city’s serendipitous drop-in vibe is just as much in evidence in tonight’s openers, the New Orleans Suspects. Consisting of former Radiators bassist Reggie Scanlan, Nevilles drummer “Mean” Willie Green, keyboardist CR Gruver, and guitarist Jake Eckert and saxophonist Kevin Harris from the Dirty Dozen, these unusual Suspects blend myriad strands of Crescent City DNA into a most promising improv-funk monster.
