The timeless Bernadette Peters was the guest of honor at a New Dramatists Luncheon at the Marriott Marquis yesterday, where she was serenaded by costars Elaine Stritch and John Dossett and honored by Joel Grey, who said she’s been like a younger sister to him ever since she played just that in George M!.
And not only can Peters sing like an angel, but she gives good speech.
The Tony winner admitted, “I thought I was too young to get a lifetime achievement award.
“But when an old man with white hair tells you he’s loved you since he was a little boy–which happened to me recently–you think, ‘Maybe it’s time.’ ”
OK, sure, but she still doesn’t show it.

And as she also remembered, “When I was nine, I worked with Otto Preminger. I should get a medal!”
